Clam AV for windows – Immunet Protect beta:

Unlike other free antivirus software Clam AV is free for both commercial and home users! It has a simple interface like Microsoft Security Essentials.There is a summary tab which provides information about the programs that have been installed recently, clean files and threats detected on your PC, apart from other basic information like the number of users in the community and the number of threats against which you are protected.

The history tab is a visual record of all the activity (scans) that Clam AV has performed for you, over a period of time.Here you will also be able to remove files from quarantine, in case Clam AV has given a false positive on a file or program. Immunet Protect keeps precise track of all of the files installed on your computer and classifies them as both good and bad!

When a file is detected as malicious on your computer system, Clam AV (immunet) records it in three different ways. First, it will alert you that it has seen and quarantined a virus, with a toaster pop up from your tray icon.Once you see this type of pop-up, it means that Immunet Protect has prevented a threat from infecting your system. In addition to stopping the threat, it also places the offending file into a ‘time out’ called Quarantine. This safely isolates the file, but does not immediately delete it. In case you decide to not agree with Immunet’s conviction of the file and would like to restore it back to your system, you can do so via the History tab.

The Scan tab is where you may go to start Flash Scans manually. This scan is not exhaustive in that it reviews your whole file system. This scan is designed to review all of your currently running programs as well as scanning a series of strategic Registry keys to look for active threats.

Scan options defaults out to scanning Running Process, which means it reviews all the software actively running on your system and ‘Load Points’, which means all programs set to be launched at run time (boot) will be scanned. Generally you would not want to disable this default configuration, unless you are trouble shooting a problem.

The settings tab controls all of the Immunet Protect behavior. Each setting is toggled on or off with a slider. If you wish to change a default setting, simply toggle the slider into an on or off position. Once you have toggled the setting you must press Apply to finalize the Selection.

Immunet Protect Beta will occasionally detect good files as viruses, though it does not delete them. It renders them harmless and moves them to a ‘Quarantine’ directory so if you need to restore them you can. In order to restore your file(s) you will need to go to your History tab and find the files which have been sent to your Quarantine. The easiest way to look for these events is to look for events in your History marked red. Each entry which has a ‘detection’ in red will have an item immediately above it marked with a green mark and identifying itself as a ‘Quarantine’ event.
